This pilot report was conducted as an independent study, as a part of my schooling at Global College, a cultural studies program under the umbrella of Long Island University. While it was ultimately my choice to take up this topic, I feel I must extend thanks Dr. Gajendra Kumar, who helped me conceptualize the study and who introduced me to my facilitator and translator, Dr. Rajendra Khare, without whom this all could never have existed. I also must thank Mr. Rakesh Sherma, my home-stay father, for his bestowing upon me of his intricate knowledge of the terrain and close relationship with many Baiga villages.
While a network has already been established in Baihar, I have hopes to build platforms in other cities in Madhya Pradesh in order to continue research, and promote cottage industry regeneration after graduation this December. This site is by no means conclusive of all of the observations made during the study, as an accedemic paper is also in the works.
If you are interested in knowing more about the Baiga Tribe, are inspired to jump-start a welfare scheme, or know of any lawyers who would like to volunteer for compensation efforts, please feel welcome to write me at: [email protected]
